Beyeeman Tano Kwaw Benbuin III, known in his private life as Thomas Antwi-Agyei, was born in Enchi, Ghana. He is the Paramount Chief of the Aowin Traditional Area and the President of the Aowin Traditional Council.
Beyeeman’s academic journey began at Fijai Secondary School, after which he pursued a degree in English, French, and Linguistics at the University of Ghana, Legon. His passion for languages further led him to the Université de Caen in France, where he studied French and French Civilisation.
His commitment to education continued, as he obtained two Master’s degrees—one in Media, Communications and Public Relations and the other in Accounting and Finance, both from the University of Leicester, from the United Kingdom (UK). It is also in the UK where he built a successful career in banking, becoming a Branch Manager for Barclays Bank PLC.
As a proud member of the Anyi Oyoko Royal Family, Beyeeman’s royal lineage is rooted in his maternal heritage. He is the son of the late Theresa Mannah Koffie and the grandson of the late Paramount Queenmother of the Aowin Traditional Area, Nana Asuamah Payin II. According to the matrilineal inheritance system practised by the Akans of Ghana—which includes the Anyi people—Beyeeman was chosen to ascend the Paramount Stool of the Aowin Traditional Area following the passing of Odeneho
Brentu IV. On March 23, 2019, he was officially nominated, selected and installed as the Paramount Chief of the Aowin Traditional Area, in line with Anyi customary law practices.
In 2020, Beyeeman further solidified his role as leader and family man when he married Oheneyere Augustina Asare Osei. Committed to leading with wisdom and justice, he continued his academic pursuits, earning an LL.B from the University of Ghana in 2023 to better serve his people through the rule of law.
As Paramount Chief, Beyeeman’s vision is to promote peace, development and environmental sustainability in Aowin. As a fierce advocate for environmental protection, he has taken a strong stance against illegal mining activities that threaten the well-being of his people and the environment.
Education is a key priority for Beyeeman. Consequently, he launched the Aowin Scholarship Scheme to provide financial assistance to bright but needy students in the Traditional Area. He has also been instrumental in improving infrastructure at Nana Brentu Senior High School, securing the constructions of new 6-unit and 12-unit classroom blocks through collaborations with the GNPC and GES.
In terms of infrastructure development, Beyeeman is leading the renovation and expansion of AnyiFie, the Anyi Oyoko Royal Palace including a museum, transforming it into a significant cultural landmark. The Aowin Traditional Council building has also been completed, awaiting commissioning. Beyeeman has further contributed to community welfare by constructing a 20-seater public lavatory through the financial assistance of Ghana Gas Company, with accompanying bathrooms in Enchi. He is also overseeing the development of a standard football pitch. This initiative aims to revamp and revitalize the local football club, Anyi FC, and nurture athletic and football talents, reflecting Beyeeman’s personal passion for sports.
Beyeeman’s dream is to restore the glory the Aowin state once had, and unite all Anyis scattered across Ghana, in Côte d’Ivoire and other parts of the world.
